Vault Server Install/Unistall Corruption

Post by erods » Wed Feb 16, 2005 11:55 am

After installing the Vault Server the permissions on the MachineKeys folder was completely reset, thus some of the 3rd party software we use that relies on the MachineKeys folder was unusable. After deleting the edb3f753ca89beb7d17f32a80a447d75_* file, we were able to get 3rd party software to work. But here is the real kicker:

We unistalled the Vault Server from our Windows XP machine, and it completely corrupted IIS. When we try and start the IIS service it returns the following error: The IIS Admin service terminated with service-specific error 2148073487 (0x8009000F). When we try and go to IIS manager, it has disappeared. When we try and reinstall IIS is returns an error saying attempt to write encrypted data failed. From what we have seen this error usually signifies that the metabase is corrupt.

How could this happen and iss there anything we can do other than rebuilding the Windows XP machine?

Could you email your vault_install.log and vault_uninstall.log files? They should be in the %temp% directory of the user who installed Vault. Send them to linda at SourceGear.com.

We got this email from erods
It looks as though we will have the issue resolved tomorrow morning - it appears that permissions on the Machine Keys directory were not acceptable, which caused IIS to fail. Unfortunately at this point I cannot clearly state if your install/uninstall did such a thing, or I did trying to correct the original offence.
The uninstall for the Vault server does not modify the permissions on the MachineKeys directory.

Did you experience this same problem? What version of Vault are you using? What operating system was the Vault server on?

Were you able to reinstall IIS or did you have to rebuild your machine? Or would you like us to look into this further?
