Linux - Gentoo - Segmentation fault

Post by -peter- » Sat Mar 13, 2004 1:38 pm

Hello eveyone;

I have just downloaded the latest (3.53) tar file that contains the client to connect to SOS server. I would like to be able to run SOS client under Gentoo Linux.<HR>
:arrow:I have completed the following:
+ - Downloaded & Extracted
|-------- soscmd_linux_professional.tar.gz
|-------- sos_client_linux_professional.tar.gz
When I use the command utility to
./soscmd -command GetDatabases -server remote_server_name:8888<HR>
The command utlity shows the following
Segmentation fault
So; I tought I might be using incorrect command parameters and decided to use the GUI interface. However it also gives me a Segmentation fault.

How can I resolve this?

Thank-you

Peter

Which versions of GTK+ and GLIB are installed on your machine?

There is a known problem with recent versions of these libraries which results in problems with SourceOffSite. SourceOffSite was built with GTK+ 1.2.7 and GLIB 1.2.7. However, we have found that newer versions of GTK++ (especially 1.2.9) stop SOS from functioning properly.

One workaround at this time would be to install either v1.2.7 or v1.2.8 of the GTK+ and GLIB libraries.

Another option is to build your own clients with the Unix code from SOS 3.5. Email me and I'll send you the code

If you can wait a week, the best bet would be to try SOS 4.0 Unix clients. They'll be available on our website next week.

Your are absolutely right about me having a newer set of libraries!

Currently I have the following:
glib-2.2.3
gtk+-2.2.4-r1

Due to some dependencies I can not remove / downgrade those libraries.

Will the release of SOS 4.0 for Unix have the GUI interface supported also?

I can wait till next week; thank you for the offer. Do you think the segmentation fault would be fixed by simply compiling against the new libraries?

If you would like me to do any tests e-mail me and I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

I just noticed the SourceOffSite 4.0 was put on the website; however I don't see a Unix/Linux download. All there is MSI files which are window based installations. Could you direct me to the correct link?

Thank you

As I mentioned in my previous post, they won't be on the website until next week.
