Automatically detect new files in Vault client

Post by Ruben » Fri Jun 03, 2005 2:46 am

When using the vault client, it automatically sees changes in files,
but I've found no way of getting the client to 'see' new files.
I always must use the 'detect new files' action, to get the new files in vault,
and I forget this sometimes (stupid me).

Is there somewhere an option to do this automatically?
--> on checking that files have been modified, also check for new files
according to the filter and so.

Just keep the current functionality of the 'detect new files',
this is ok.

Right now, the "detect new files" is the only way to see that new files are in the working folder.

Can a future version have a setting to also automatically check for new files / folders?

The user still has to select (or deselect) them to get them into sourcegear,
but this automatic detection would make it a lot easier.

Feature request : automatically detect new files

Post by Ruben » Mon Jun 20, 2005 4:28 am

It has been a while, is there an item added on the todo list to add this functionality?

Subversion does this automatiically with the command 'svn status'.
This is very handy, for the moment I am using vault, and I like vault a lot.

But since I am only human, I sometimes forgot to use 'detect new files'.
which resulted in a bad source in sourcecontrol

So I am asking to add similar functionality in the vault client.

We've added some feature requests that would improve the functionality of the Detect New Files dialog, but I don't thing we've really defined what it means to "detect new files automatically."

Do you want a dialog that pops up from time to time that says "you have new files in your working folder?" Or do you want the files to appear in the file list with a status "new" or something like that?

I prefer the second option:

Make the files to appear in the file list with a status "new" or something.
This is the most intuitive to my opinion.

OK, I've logged it to our features database.

thanks for adding it

:?: a question about the features database.

Is there a way to see it somewhere?
just to know what's in the pipeline, and maybe an ETA of those items.

So in the future I can see if a feature request has been asked for or not,
and use the same 'words / description' for that feature request.

keep up the good work
