Monitoring application

Post by DeanU » Fri Jun 10, 2005 8:57 am

As a Systems Admin, I have been tasked with coming up with a way to monitor the operating condition of Source OffSite. What should my monitoring systems watch to verify SOS is functioning properly. For example, with other applications I monitor the running state of services, or there are folders that accumluate files indicating a problem with processing.

Admittedly I am not an SOS user, but I do use/manage the VSS system.

Thanks in advance,

Most SOS issues are configuration problems at installation. Once SOS is working properly, you could just monitor the service to make sure it's running. Sometimes the server can be running, but the automation component has crashed, so you could automate a period login with the SOS Command Line Client to verify it can communicate with the database.

Another useful troubleshooting tool is the log.txt file in the SOS Server directory. It records events and errors.
