Vault using 200MB in Document folder. Why?

Post by ssantiago » Sun Jun 05, 2005 12:07 pm

Can anyone explain what the over 200MB of files in this directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\SourceGear\Vault_1\Client

is used for? I initially did a SourceSafe import. Is this temp data for that?

Thanks,

Sam

When a file is retrieved by the Vault client, a "baseline" version of that file is stored on local disk. This version is then used to determine what the status is of your local copy as well as any changes made to the file by other users.

By default, this is stored in your Docs & Settings folder in _sgvault sub directories. I believe there is a section in the help system for Cache/Backup Locations.

One note on this: In the 3.1 release, which is currently in Beta, you are allowed to choose where you want your baseline and cache files to be placed - it is no longer limited to Docs & Settings vs working folder.

Some of our machines recently had over 30gb in the cache. We keep a large number of binary resources in source control and it really adds up. I've added "go delete everything in vault's cache" to the checklist for moving our team to a new project. :)
