Hi,
I was just watching the video on http://channel9.msdn.com about the new office file formats. Sounds like their new format is a zip file that holds a bunch of small xml files inside of it. The file format for my application is very similar. I have an zip file with a number of xml files inside of it.
A few of my users have asked for a way to do source control kinds of operations on their documents. Some of them use SourceGear to protect their files, but since they are zips everything must be exclusively checked out, and merging is not possible. Given that Microsoft is going down the same road I am, do you imagine that a future version of the Vault could do some kind of merging of the guts of a zip file. Or treat a zip as a folder node in a repository.
I would imagine a feature like that would make source control a more useful technology for lots of people who work with Microsoft Office all day, and not text files.
thanks,
Jake Pearson
