Error - Could not get public key from server

Post by bwh-iit » Tue May 17, 2005 4:14 pm

I just installed Vault on my server.

I verified that the xxx/vaultService.html and vaultService.asmx load correctly. Now, whenever I try to logon with the Admin Tool (or the client) I get a "Could not get public key from server." Error message, regardless of the username or password provided.

I looked at the other thread about this error, but it didn't seem any of the solutions pertained to my problem.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

With Vault, you can use the "Click here for more information" link in the error message to find more information on the most common errors. It doesn't cover every error, but it covers quite a few.

I can't change permissions in %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys on server of my hosting provider. May be other way to pass this message (could not get public key from server).

Thanks

There is no other way to get around this error. The Vault server must be able to store its public key on the server, and that is the location that the keys are stored. The server installer should set the proper permissions. Did your hosting provider run the installer? Are you trying to change the identity that Vault is running under?

It's menace of security for hosting provider - run any install packages. I try install server by coping my local installation to Internet. But I understand, what this isn't standard deployment. :)
