SOS clients will not need VSS installed, only the server correct?

That's correct. A copy of the VSS client needs to be installed on the SOS Server machine, since the SOS Server uses the VSS automation component supplied by the VSS Client.

Remote users do not need VSS on their machines.

The only exception is that in some cases, Visual Basic 6 integration does not work unless a VSS client is installed. It provides something needed to enable IDE integration with VB6.
