Server Error 400

Post by Vaidy » Sat Apr 16, 2005 11:57 pm

Hi,

I'm evaluating version 3.5.3 of Sourceoffsite. I have crossed one error after another thanks to this Group.

I currently face this error :

Server Error 400

I have tried all the suggested solution :
a. Giving default Launch permission for the user from dcomcnfg.exe
b. Enabled user permission on the network drive
c. Ran an analyse on the database.

However no luck.. :(

I see that the Logging is enabled to Log.txt but there is no log.txt file in the SourceOffsite folder. (i thought i shall send that file for your investigation).

I get a message of "Server Closed" in SourceOffsite explorer, "operation failed - (null)" in bottom window of SourceOffsite explorer.

The following messages appear in the Event Viewer :
1. Connection Established
2. "admin" connected to database: \\150.122.50.20\ECommerce\srcsafe.ini
3. Server Error 400
4. User "admin" disconnected

Please provide some helpful hints to proceed further.

Thanks
Vaidy

Server error 400 basically means "Operation Failed," and we already know that. :(

The fact that you don't have a log file points to a problem.

Some things to check:

Do you have copy of the SourceSafe client installed on the SOS Server machine? (The SOS Server needs the ssapi.dll file supplied by the client so that it can communicate with the database.)

Does the account used by the SOS Server service have read/write access to the SOS Server directory so that it can write the log?

What operating system is the SOS Server installed on?

That did it

I don't know about you Vaidy, but that did it for me. I added the user that starts the SourceOffSite server service to the Administrators group on the server it is running against and it works fine now.

I forget that every time I have to move the server! I need to write that down.

Thanks lbauer

Hi All,

The problem was resolved once i used another user id to access the VSS databases.

Thanks for your suggestions.
