Automatic 'Check out for Edit'

Is there a way to disable the 'Check our for Edit' dialog? I'd like a file to be automatically checked out when I start editing, instead of having to dismiss the dialog every time manually. (I could not find any documenation about this.)

Yes, go to Tools->Options->Source Control, and there should be a checkbox there that controls this.

Under Tools->Options->General, set DoubleClick on file to "Edit."

The next time you double click on a file you'll get an Edit Local Version dialog. Check "Checkout file before editing" and "Only Show this dialog when Shift key is down." You may then still get a Checkout Dialog, in which case you would again check "Only show this dialog when Shift key is down."

Now you should be able to doubleclick and immediately open the file for editing.

You could also work in CVS mode, which would not require the file to be checked out before editing and committing the file.
