Display logged in users?

Post by mksql » Wed Apr 13, 2005 9:16 am

When users are logged into Visual SourceSafe via the Microsoft client, the login status is displayed in the the Logged In column of the VSS Administrator tool.

However, when a user is logged into Visual SourceSafe via SourceOffSite Classic (4.1), MS VSS Administrator tool does not show that user's status.

Is this expected with SOS? Is there any method to display currently connected users with SOS?

There's no way to reliably determine if SOS users are logged in to VSS.

Sometimes the Admin tool does show users logged in through SOS, but the name may be there even when the user is logged out. This is because the SOS Server appears to be a VSS client to the VSS database, and as long as the server is running, VSS thinks there's still someone logged in.

I know I can watch the log file for connections, so that will do.

I'd suggest you stop the SOS Server service before running Analyze. Then you can be sure all SOS users are out of VSS.

You can automate this for SOS 3.5.x by using the DOS command:

"net stop sossvrsvc" to stop the service and
"net start sossvrsvc" to restart the service.
