Exception during Login: Exception from HRESULT 0x80110802

Post by torial » Thu Mar 24, 2005 5:34 pm

I cleaned up my VSS install (upgraded to 6.0d), and reinstalled SOS. After a creating a new VSS DB, I was able to get past the earlier errors that seemed like BizTalk problems. Now, I'm trying to connect, and I get:
The Server was unable to connect to the SourceSafe database.

The contents of the log file are:
3/24/2005 5:25:06 PM - Waiting for a connection....secure = False
3/24/2005 5:25:16 PM - Connection accepted from xxx.168.xxx.194:1258 on local address xxx.168.xxx.194:8081, session id is 1.
3/24/2005 5:25:19 PM - 1: Exception during Login: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80110802.
3/24/2005 5:25:19 PM - 1: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80110802.
3/24/2005 5:25:24 PM - Connection accepted from xxx.168.xxx.194:1260 on local address xxx.168.xxx.194:8081, session id is 2.
3/24/2005 5:25:28 PM - 2: Exception during Login: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80110802.
3/24/2005 5:25:28 PM - 2: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80110802.

I did a search of the forum and tried any suggestions that seemed related. I created a new account and tried it -- but still get the same result. This is independent of w/ or w/o Cryptography...

Thanks in advance.

Boy, not much to go on here. This is a fairly generic error and other cases Which have reported the HRSESULT: etc, have been different issues.

Your log file reports:
3/24/2005 5:25:19 PM - 1: Exception during Login: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80110802.

The login would be the login to VSS. So this is the failure point. But it's not clear why. If you have a brand-new VSS database, then database corruption is not very likely.

Try enabling both verbose and method logging for the SOS Server. Maybe we'll get some additional information.

There may be a problem with the server machine itself. If you install the SOS Server on a different machine but use the same VSS database, does that work?

Unfortunately I don't have access to a separate machine at this point. Does the fact that my pc is XP Professional (and not Server) make any difference?

Here's the text from the log.. I set both to level 4.

It does look like encryption might be part of the problem. Can you enable and connect to the unsecure port, just as a test? Does that connection fail as well?

The unsecure port does not need an encryption key.

Encryption

I did try logging in as the pwd user with and w/o encryption, and neither route worked :(

Windows Server

I was able to get access to a Windows XP Server (instead of Windows XP Professional box), and once the DB was on the server -- it worked fine.
