Could Not Find File Error

Post by ZakZak » Thu Mar 10, 2005 1:20 pm

Today, I started getting this error. Any idea what is causing it?

Code: Select all

Could not find file "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\SourceGear\Vault_1\Client\82064C4A-12E8-44D7-8ED1-183D30E072AD\kwilliams\_sgvault\-1915411184\214.998".
I tried upgrading the server to 3.0.5, uninstalling the client, and re-installing the 3.0.5 client and I'm still receiving the error every time I open the client.

Looks like Vault is having problems finding the hidden state folder.

Does this path exist on your machine? It's under the Application Data for Administrator. Were you using Vault while logged into the machine as Administrator?

Yes, I always log in to this particular machine as Administrator (actually, this machine is a virtual machine under VMware - my laptop runs Linux but I have to boot VMware to do Windows development <grin>).

All of the directories in the path exist, but the file at the end appears to be missing (I've attached a screenshot).

How can I get around this error? I have several files checked out on this machine and I'd like to check them back in today. :) Every time I open the Vault client, I get this error over and over and over (have to End Task the client from Task Manager to get out).

You may need to delete the cache files for that repository and have the client reconstruct them. If you are on 3.0.5, then your edited files will go to Needs Merge, because you will have lost the baseline files that it needs, but doing a Show Merge should resolve the differences, if there weren't any conflicts with newer server versions.

Thanks, Dan. Could I bother you for a more detailed explanation of what to do? What files in what directory do I need to delete? What do I need to do in the client after deleting those files?

Start by deleting the files in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\SourceGear\Vault_1\Client\82064C4A-12E8-44D7-8ED1-183D30E072AD\kwilliams\_sgvault\-1915411184

That should cause the working folder associated with that folder to have all their files go to Unknown. Just do a Get Latest, it should resolve the ones that have not changed.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to delete starting at: Start by deleting the files in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\SourceGear\Vault_1\Client\82064C4A-12E8-44D7-8ED1-183D30E072AD\kwilliams\_sgvault

Delete this folder will cause you to lose all your working folder assignments and all of your state everywhere, so you'll need to re-add working folders, and then do a Get Latest on the folders where you previously had files.

Sorry this is such a pain :(
