Feature Request

Post by jmercker » Tue Feb 08, 2005 11:47 am

It would be nice to be able to copy out the complete working folder path to a project from the Vault client. The information is currently displayed, but not able to be copied out to the clip board. If you have the feature + I just haven't found it, let me know... I've ran into cases where I've been ramping up a new resource + end up typing out the project locations and emailing to the resource. Some of the paths can be pretty long, so would save me some time if I could just navigate to the project in Vault + copy out the vault path (e.g. $/.../...).

I just wanted to say that we switched to Vault from VSS a couple of months back + we haven't regretted it. Solid product + solid support have made the transition painless.

Jeramie:

Can you elaborate more on how this would be used? I'd like a complete description in order to create a feature request for the suggestion.

Not to leave you empty handed, there are a couple of work arounds you could do to get the working folder path:

1) If you invoke the context menu on any "working-folder assigned" source tree folder, you can invoke "Explore Working Folder". From within Explorer, configure the Folder option to display the full path in the address bar. You can copy the path from here.

OR

2) If the path you want is in your change set, you can higlight / copy the change set information. From there, you would have to edit the "pasted contents" of the clipboard for the path.

In 3.0, this is possible with the Email pane. See this post for details.

Jeramie:

Can I ask for a clarification? In your original post, you had asked for a way to copy out the complete working folder path.

A working folder is a local path on disk ( D:\dev\projects\proj ). In your post, did you perhaps mean the repository path ( $/projects/foo/trunk/src )?

Detail on feature request

Post by jmercker » Tue Feb 08, 2005 12:57 pm

After logging into the Vault client, I'd like to be able to do the following:

1. Right click on the project in Vault + select from the context menu the properties option.

2. On the General tab of the properties dialog, I'd like to be able to copy the text that appears in Name field that appears at the top of the dialog.

This feature could be as simple as replacing the label control with a text box control + marking the text box as read only so that a user can't mess up the information within. I could then select the text + copy/paste it elsewhere.

Thanks for the quick response...

So you are looking for the Repository Path, correct? I'll log a request for this feature.

You're correct, the repository path. Sorry if I said working folder before (e.g. I know that it can change from user to user).
