Delete a user?

Post by toddg » Tue Dec 21, 2004 6:30 pm

This seems like a stupid question, but in Vault Admin - users tab there are no buttons to delete an existing user, only stuff to create one. Am I doing something wrong?

Vault users can't be deleted. You can edit a user and deactivate them.

What's the logic behind that? Seems like if nothing else from a security standpoint you'd want to be able to delete a user.

If a user was deleted, all information related to what that user would be eliminated. So from a standpoint of not losing all relative information, the user cannot be removed.

This would normally cause a problem, but when a user is deactivated, it is a dead account and cannot be used for anything within Vault. Security at this point is a non-issue since the account is not usable.

Delete User

What about the license agreement. I just went in to deactivate a user and then could not add another user due to the license. Since a user cannot be deleted the Admin is stuck with reassigning the username with the user information that the application wants to retain but the Admin really doesn't want.

I think the Admin should be able to delete users. Hopefully this will change in future versions.

Vault is designed to free up that license when another user is de-activated.

Since Vault has worked this way since its inception, I'll run a quick test just to make sure something unexpected is not happening.

This is working correctly.

As long as the total number of active users is <= number of licenses, I was able to log in as anyone of my 5 user licnese. Once I added an [edit]"acgive" to "active"[/edit]6th user, no one could log into Vault. However, deactivating any one of the 6, allowed the other five to log in.

You are correct. I guess the issue is the old users have to be carried forever. This just seems to be unneeded and is not a standard way of doing Admin control of users.

But, perhaps since the database has the info on this user it is needed for constraint issues or something. It's just more of an inconvenience from the usability standpoint.

Thanks.
