Poor Performance with Binary Files

Post by Jon Hart » Sun Jan 23, 2005 8:02 pm

Vault 3.0.1
SQL Server 2000
1.4 GHz PIII
1 GB RAM

When doing a get latest version, either the first, or subsequest times, binary files transfer very slowly.

We have quite a few image files in Vault as part of the website we are developing, for the most part they arent large ( 11 files over 100k, out of 2000 files ). It takes about 4 minutes for me to check out that reporistory, with an on disk size of 30mb.

We have quite a few users who are either on 10mbit connections ( cant do anything about that ) or on wifi connections. It often takes an hour or more for them to check out the repository.

Considering the amount of data, it seems like it should be possible to copy the files in around 30 seconds. An option in the client that directs the server to build a single archive file and then transfer that would be good. We are looking at having users connecting through broadband, and its goign to be really slow there ( some of our broadband users are on 256k links ).

Jon,

This sounds like something odd is happening. Give me an email using the button below this post, and I'll work with you to straighten it out.
