VB6 IDE merge/overwrite doesn't show filename

Post by davidt » Fri Jan 21, 2005 7:53 am

Hello,

This morning my VB6 IDE showed a little exclamation point on one of the files in my project, indicating that there was a newer version in the repository. I rright-clicked and selected Get Latest Version. For some reason, Vault wanted to know whether to merge or to overwrite the file. The problem I saw was that the dialog box from Vault did not mention the name of the file.

Now, since I selected the file to get the latest version of, I know what file Vault was asking about, except there are two situations where there could be more than one file involved.

This file was a .frm file, so there was an associated .frx file, and Vault asked about both. However, I suppose it's possible that only the .frx file needs this question asked, and it wouldn't be clear from the dialog.

The other situation where this could be a problem is when I select Tools->SourceGear Vault->Get Latest Version... to select multiple files. If some of the files needed this choice made, but not all, I wouldn't know which files were being asked about.

Thanks!

I'm not able to see this, so maybe a screenshot would help. Attached is the dialog that I think you are referring to, in which Vault asks what to do with a file that is about to be overwritten, which does have the file name. Are you seeing a different dialog?

That looks like the one I saw; this was actually the first time I had seen it.

I notice in your screen shot that the file name part was wrapped around to the left; if that is how it looked on my system, I probably just overlooked the file name. (It was 5:30AM and the coffee wasn't done yet  )

Well, it turns out not to be the same dialog after all. The one I see is attached. The Source Code Control Results window is blank at this time, so there isn't any indication from VB or the add-in what file this dialog refers to.

Thanks!
