Diff file from History by version...

Post by Allen Servedio » Wed Dec 15, 2004 8:01 am

Hi,

I would like to propose a (hopefully) simple yet very useful feature to one of your views: being able to diff files that appear when you do a history by version.

Here is what I am talking about... When you do a "Show History..." on a folder, you have the option to select "View folder history by version". In this view, you can select a version, click the Details button and see a nice friendly list of files that changed for that version. BUT, you cannot (so far as I know...) then find out what changed. I can edit the comments for them, but what I REALLY want to do is double click on any file and get an automatic diff between it and any previous version (so I can see what change was just checked in).

This feature is available in Subversion and I have found it to be REALLY handy for anyone trying to understand how a project is changing.

So, the additional feature would be to allow people to do a simple diff on the files that appear in the Version Details screen to see what changed.

And please don't tell me that I can just hit "Diff" on the Folder Versions page. For large projects, that is beyond painful as it diffs the entire bloody project (with no ability to cancel the operation - I wind up killing the client and re-log in). I just want to see how one file change right from the (fairly fast) Folder Version view.

Thanks!
Allen

yes, this is much needed, and a feature that has been requested by others. We'll add your vote to the feature.
