%temp%\vault[guid] directories on vault 3.5.2 client+server

Vault 3.5.2 server and client

Could someone tell me what the %temp%\vault[insert guid here] folders are on my vault server/workstation. They seem to hold copies of files/entire projects, some of which are enormous and are causing the machine to run out of disk space.

Can these be removed, and can the default location for their future creation be changed to another disk?

Many thanks,

Andy

These are your client-side cache files. Some answers to your questions here:
http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=927

In 3.5.x Vault Client->Tools->Options->Cache/Backup location, you can choose to put the baselines in your working folders, so if you're not using a working folder, you can remove it and the baselines.

Vault 4.0.x has further options -- you can select a custom location for your cache and backup files.

%temp% vs %appdata%\SourceGear

Hi Linda,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a little confused still, sorry.

I have previously moved the cache folders using Tools -> Options -> Local FIles -> Cache/Backup Locations -> Store Client Cache Folder. They were originally located in
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\SourceGear

The setting for Store Working Folder/Baseline files is set to Client Cache Folder, so I'm guessing they are being stored in the new location.

The folders I'm looking at at the moment are in
%Temp% - i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp
That isn't the same folder that I moved the cache folder from. There are numerous (tens of) folders, some contain only one file, others contain 2 GB of project files. These folders begin with the name "vault" and then a Guid. e.g.
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\vaulta884af04-495c-43ff-915d-fb2123c4e51c.

This machine, and in fact another which has the same issue have both been used as clients and servers for previous versions of vault as well as 3.5.2.

Thanks again,

Andy

Folders like this are temporary folders created when you View a file and possibly when you Diff, as the client downloads a copy of the file to your local drive.

You can delete these.
