limit access to project

Post by anjita » Thu Nov 08, 2007 4:09 pm

Hi all,
I have created a user on the VSS 6.0 server, with access to only one project within the database.
When i connect to VSS 6.0 with the windows client, it enforces the access rights, however, if i use the source offsite client, the user has access to the entire database.
How do i setup the source offsite server, so that the users have limited access within a database.

Thank you.

What version of SOS are you using?
Can the user see the files too or just the folders?
Is the user able to check out, or edit, or check in files that they shouldn't have access to?

SOS Version 4.1.2

The user can see all files and folders under the $ tree.

Is the user able to check out, or edit, or check in files that they shouldn't have access to?
Yes, not only that, but in VSS 6 the user does not have access to delete any files, but SOS allows the user to delete any file or folder.

What is the full version number of the automation component that is on your SOS server? Instructions on how to determine that are here: Automation Component Version. It's important to look up the path that's registered as you may have multiple components on one machine.

Beth,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I am evaluating using this software, and based on the prompt support i am getting, i am almost sold on it!

With regards to the version of VSS automation, i have version 6.0.89.87
This was installed with another software from Seapine, called test track.
The file ssapi.dll is in the directory c:\program files\seapine\Test track pro.

Thanks again for the prompt replies.
Regards

I looked at the server, that has the SOS Sever installed, that has 2 versions of ssapi.dll.

The registered version is 6.0.81.69 in path c:\program files\vss\win32

Ok, I was thinking that could be contributing. That's a very old version. We have 6.0c posted here if you want to give that one a try instead: VSS 6.0c hotfix. In that zip file are instructions.

Basically, you want to run on either 6.0.96.40 (also called 6.0c) or 6.0.98.48 (also called 6.0d) if you are using VSS 6.0. There were many versions of the automation component in VSS 6.0.x, and the two I mentioned just give the best results.

Edit: 6.0c will only prevent access but not viewing. Per this thread, User management, VSS 6.0d or VSS 2005 work better.

I upgraded to version 6.0d and that resolved the issue.
Thank you.
