I noticed a comment in a very much earlier post that said labels can be viewed as virtual branches.
Does this mean 'physically' viewed? And if so, how?

You can "view a label" by using the Show Labels command the labeled folder, then right click on the label name and select View Label. This will show you the state of the folder at the time of the label.
There's also a feature called "Snapshot" that's similar to a branch or label, but is virtual. This is under the Source menu in the GUI Client. See Vault Help on Snapshot for more info. It was a feature in the early versions of Vault that has been pretty much replaced by Branch and Label.
