Unable to connect to database - DLLs not registered??

Post by mtini » Thu Feb 09, 2006 12:14 am

I just had to re-install SOS server due to a machine crash. The new machine is XP Pro (clean build), with .NET 1.1 and SOS server.

The problem: whenever I attempt to connect to any of the SOS databases I have defined, I am getting the following error message on the client:
"The server was unable to connect to the SourceSafe database. Please verify that SourceSafe was properly installed on the server machine."
Every time, the server records the following message in the log:
2/9/2006 12:53:32 AM - 2: Exception during Login: COM object with CLSID {783CD4E4-9D54-11CF-B8EE-00608CC9A71F} is either not valid or not registered.
2/9/2006 12:53:32 AM - 2: COM object with CLSID {783CD4E4-9D54-11CF-B8EE-00608CC9A71F} is either not valid or not registered.
I searched my registry for these CLSIDs but did not find them.

Any advice?

Thanks for your reply.

My VSS DB is on a separate box that is accessed over the network. No VSS components have specifically been installed on my SOS server box.

Before I go install VSS, etc on this box can anyone confirm if I need VSS on the box running my SOS server?

You need a copy of the VSS client on the SOS Server machine. The client provides the Automation component that SOS needs to communicate with the VSS database.
