We currently run VSS 6.0c which is accessed remotely by multiple teams of developers via a SourceOffSite server, running version 4.1. These teams are seeing unworkable response times when accessing VSS, causing them to reboot the server, sign in and start again. Most of the occurences happen when people are refreshing their data (getting the latest version). However, even if they want to get one specific document the application still checks the folder they are interested in which takes time in itself. Once they get to a specific file, response times tend not to be an issue as getting one file is very quick.
From looking at some of the other articles in this forum, it seems that we may need to apply a hotfix to sort a bug out. Is there any way we can proof this is the case via logging etc ?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Slow responses when using SourceOffSite

If you are using VSS 6.0c, use the Microsoft HotFix version, which you can download from this forum post. This will help with any concurrency issues you might be experiencing:

(Note that VSS 6.0d has different concurrency issues, so just upgrading your version of VSS will not always a solution.)
Also, review the suggestions in this KB article on optimizing SOS performance:

If you continue to experience performance issues, email me at Linda at SourceGear.com and send a copy of the SOS log.txt file (in the SOS Server directory) with a link to this post and any further details.
