Our offsite developers use Visual Studio.net integrated with SourceOffSite and share solutions and projects with
our in house developers who use Visual Studio.net integrated with Visual Source Safe.
We currently have an issue accessing an existing solution using VS.NET and VSS - if that existing solution
was added to VSS using SOS. Here are steps to reproduce the issue:
1. From a workstation that uses VS.NET integrated with SOS - create a new blank solution.
1. Open up VS.NET. On the menu bar, choose file, new, Create a blank solution, type SOS_Solution for the name.
2. On the menu bar, choose File, Add Project, New Project.
3. Choose ASP.NET web application, under location; give the project a name such as SOS_WebApp.
4. On the menu bar, choose File, Source Control, Add Solution to Source Control
2. From a workstation that uses VS.NET integrated with VSS – try to access that solution.
1. Open up VS.NET. On the menu bar, choose File, Source Control, Open from Source Control.
2. Choose the Solution that was created above.
3. When the Web application is being setup, you’ll receive this error:
“The open from source control operation has failed for this project. Close and re-open the solution to be prompted again to open the project from source control.” (Re-opening the solution does not help.)
If possible, please provide assistance. Please see the attached screen print of the error.
We are running:
Client - Win XP Pro SP1
SOS 4.1
VS.net 1.1 w/ SP1
Server - Win 2000 SP4
Thanks.

Tonya,
We are experiencing the same situation as the previous threads.
We have a solution that contains five projects. This solution was added using SOS 4.1.2. Some of our developers are using VS2003, integrated with VSS 6.0. They are unable to retrieve the complete solution. The error message is similiar to the messages described in the previous threads.
Have you discovered a solution or work-around this?
Thanks.
Steve

Steve,
In regards to these past postings, the issues were mysteriously resolved. I know that some of your developers have been utilizing VSS 8.0 and you noted that this problem occurs when using VSS 6.0. Is it possible that these projects were previously opened or added using VSS 8.0?
Are you able to retrieve the files using the SOS GUI Client?
We have been receiving a lot of concerns using VSS 8.0 with Web projects which we are currently checking into.
