SourceGear Document and Settings Folder is huge. Why?

In backing up my local workstation, I found that the following path contains over 34,000 files and consumes 1.73 GB:

C:\Documents and Settings\myNTaccount\Application Data\SourceGear\Vault_1

Granted, I have performed over 400+ imports (and reimports) of our source into our test Vault implementation, but I currently have no outstanding checkouts.

Why is this so?

Vault stores a lot of information in this directory.
