SourceOffSite Server installation also requires SoS Client

I previously posted a query about problems starting the SoS Server Service (service start fails with no log file) that I solved almost by accident.

I have just come across the same thing again and am now certain that the problem is that the SoS Server will not run if the SoS Client is not installed on the same machine.

Is this intentional? SoS Server's Install.rtf file states you must have the MS SS client and .net 1.1 installed but does not mention anything about the SoS Client.

Thought it worth bringing up as this has caused us problems a couple of times now.

Having the SOS client installed on the SOS Server machine has never been a system requirement. We're not sure why it would make a difference, as there's no interaction with the SOS Server installation.

Maybe something else you did when you installed the SOS Client caused the SOS Server to start, like re-booting the SOS Server machine.

Is your SOS Server running now?

What happens if you uninstall the SOS Client?
