Arbitrarily increasing file version?

Post by jackbrownii » Mon Jul 25, 2011 9:21 am

Is there any way to arbitrarily set/increase the version number of a file? I have some older files that are at certain version levels that have been manually maintained in the past. I would like to be able to move those projects to Vault and move the version numbering to Vault, but need to start at, for example, version 235 of a file.

Is there any easy way to do this?

There currently it's a way to set the version numbers. I have a feature request for this functionality that I can add your "vote" to if you'd like.

In the meantime, what you might consider doing is placing a label on the folder after you add the files, and have the label contain the version number you want to remember. Then, if there are important future versions, you can create more labels on that same folder with the version # you want. You can also do this at a file level, but it may be tedious to do if you have a lot of files.

Yes, please add my vote.

I do use labels for some projects, but this particular setup uses a custom bit of software to check in/out program files and puts the Vault version in the file for the end user to see on a display, hence the need to adjust Vault versions...

I was mistaken and didn't have that as a feature request yet, so I added one. Thank you for your feedback.
