Unable to view history when performing merge from a branch

I have a branch and I used to be able to do merge branches just fine, but somebody here made the mistake of branching the branch into a subfolder of the branch. I deleted the branch but I can no longer merge from the branch to the trunk. If i try it comes up with the wizard screen where it normally would show you changes, but it doesn't list any changes, so I cant select anything to merge.

Any ideas?

I couldn't reproduce this because you can't branch a folder into one of its subfolders.
