Vault client error after server moved

Post by craigp@mertechdata » Wed May 26, 2010 2:06 pm

When attempting to connect to a new My Vault server address, my Vault client (Version 5.0.3.18802) indicated there was an error connecting and displayed following message: "The profile for the user is a temporary profile."

Note the client was working fine prior to the srever move. Also note there is a single user on the PC which has Administrator rights. Attempting to uninstall and reinstall vault Client failed. Has anyone come across the scenario? :?:

Is the Vault client on your local machine, or are you remoting to another machine to use the client?

What operating system is the Vault GUI Client installed on?

Have you tried renaming the client-side cache folder (Vault_1) to see if a new one is created when you attempt to login?

Depending on the operating system, the Vault_1 folder in a location like --
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\SourceGear\Vault_1\

No folder is being created. I had problems (uninstall-reinstall a couple of times). The first uninstall and reinstall had no effect at all. I then deleted everything in the registry and Appdata folder having to do with SourceGear. When I reinstalled it appeared that many of these settings were not re-created. Can you tell why not? :(

The profile for the user is a temporary profile.
Based on some internet searches, it appears this error is more of a Windows error than a Vault user profile error.

Are you the only one having a problem connecting to the Vault Server?

Can you connect to the Vault server with a Vault client on the server machine using "localhost" for the servername in the Connect to server dialog?

Are there any errors in the Vault Server log that correspond to the failure?

It is only on a specific PC. I can connect from another PC. No Vault account works on this specific PC (Which of course is the one I want to use). :?

The error occurs without a valid Vault Server name or login.

I will check, but the error occurs prior to the username validation, so I do not we get to where we are connecting to the Vault Server.

Are there any errors in the Event Viewer on your Vista machine?

Here are some articles which discuss the error you are getting. Do they seem to describe the problem?
