Vault Backup never ends
I just recently upgraded from vault 4.1.4 to vault 5.0.3.
After the upgrade, backups via the vault admin web page gui
does not complete.
It seems that the backup files are created and then there is continued
cpu activity for along time. If I wait until the cpu activity is low and
if the vault admin web backup page is still responsive (sometimes),
I can then click on the Cancel button.
The admin web page is generally sluggish but usable.
The vault log doesnt have much useful information.
A sanitized version follows...

Re: Vault Backup never ends
We've had reports of this, and have logged it as Bug 15141.
Have you tried restoring one of these backups to see if it actually completed and is a good backup? You should always test backups, even if they appear successful.
You can run backups with SQL Server tools. It is KB article about ensuring you have the backup of your Vault database.

Re: Vault Backup never ends
ok. How will I know when the problem is fixed?
Do we have access to the bug database so we can see the progress
on this issue?
Thanks.

Re: Vault Backup never ends
I'm still having this problem with backup.
I am using vault 5.0.3 and since 5.0.4 is now available
I thought I would check if the problem is fixed in 5.0.4.
I checked the release notes for 5.0.4 and I dont see
that it is fixed. However, hope springs eternal, so I thought
I would check with you. Is this problem fixed now?
FYI: I found out several interesting things that I would like
to pass on to you all...
a. Mozilla Firefox allows the Vault Admin Web interface to
run an order of magnitude faster that Internet Explorer.
This makes interaction with the Vault admin pages
alot better but does not fix the problem with Backup
never ending.
b. I have moved my vault installation from 32Bit windows xp
to 64bit Windows 7. The same backup problem exists
on both systems. I'm wondering if the backup gui works
correctly for any of your customers and if so, what kind
of installations work.

Re: Vault Backup never ends
Unfortunately, the Vauklt 5.x backup screen still hangs even though the backup is done. Of course, it would be nice to know for sure that you have a good backup.
It seems to hang during lengthy operations. I just backed up a 300 MG sgvault database and it took a couple of minutes. Then I tried backing up one that was 2 GB and it's still spinning after 20 minutes. It looks like I have a backup though.
We do have bug 15141 logged for this, but we haven't yet been able to spend focused effort on determining what's going on.
Until we fix this, you can test your backup or do the backup with SQL Server Backup tools.

Re: Vault Backup never ends
We've made some changes in Vault 7.2 that might help this issue. If you are in a position to upgrade, give it a try and let me know your results.
If you don't have license keys for Vault 7.2, then email to support at sourcegear.com with a link to this forum thread and we can discuss what it would take to get you to Vault 7.2.
