Fortress upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.1.4

Can you confirm that one can upgrade from Fortress v1.0.1 to v1.1.4 at no cost, despite not having a product maintenance contract?

When doing so, am I correct in saying that all clients in use within the organisation must be upgraded at the same time, as the Fortress due to the lack of backward compatibility?

When upgrading from 1.0.6, one needs to take special care, ensuring that two shortcuts are left on the desktop. Is there anything one needs to be aware of when upgrading from 1.0.1?

It says that one can upgrade from a previous installation of Fortress by simply invoking the new installer, keeping the options of the previous Fortress selection. It also says that one can uninstall the old version first. What are the merits of doing the uninstall?
Do these comments apply equally to the server and the client?

1) Yes, from 1.0.1 to 1.1.4 is a free upgrade regardless of your maintenance contract.

2) Fortress 1.0.x and 1.1.x are not compatible, so both clients and server must upgrade.

3) You actually don't want to leave shortcuts. It would be best to just follow the instructions posted here, How To Uninstall Fortress 1.0.6 Server, if you are on Fortress 1.0.6. If you are not on Fortress 1.0.6, then you shouldn't need to worry about it. If you see symptoms that appear similar, then just follow the same instructions.

4) There isn't really a benefit to one way or the other. When there are issues with one way of doing the upgrade, then we have users go the other route. If you want to change the admin password while upgrading, then you would uninstall and reinstall.
