How to connect SOS via Internet to a VSS DB

Post by jmash » Thu Jan 08, 2009 8:48 am

Hello,

We have a private / lan netwrok and the VSS Database exists in one of our servers ServerA. I have successfully setup SourceOffsite on the VSS server and am able to access the VSS database from within another machine on the same network.

I want to provide access to a friend who has no access to the network but has internet access - one main advantage of using SourceOffsite I suppose.

Could you please let me know how this could be achieved. What do we need to do to the server in order for the user to access the database in secure manner?

Many thanks,
jmash

SOS Clients communicate with the SOS server via TCP/IP on a specific port. Default ports for the SOS Server 4.1 ar 8080 and 8081.

For clients to contact the SOS Server, the port needs to open to the Internet between client and server. This means firewalls, routers, etc. between client and server need to be able to pass TCP/IP both ways on Port 8080, for example.
