Uninstalling Vault client kills XP workstation

Post by Guest » Wed May 12, 2004 6:37 pm

I recently tried uninstalling the vault 1.2.3 client on an XP workstation (so as to upgrade to 2.0). However after I uninstall and reboot I encounter VERY slow operation getting to the login screen (the welcome screen displays "Windows is starting up" for a very long time). Once logged in virtually no system functions work (i.e. Getting the properties for My Computer, Opening System Restore, Adding Printers). Also many of my user setting seem to simply vanish, printers disappear etc;. I am forced to boot into Safe Mode and restore to a point before I uninstalled the client.

I have performed imperical tests of this situation. The Vault uninstall causes a system checkpoint to be created just prior to the uninstall, so I can say without a doubt the only change between my working system and my completely trashed system is the uninstallation of vault. Restoring to the checkpoint just prior to Vault uninstallation restores the system to working order.

I'd appreciate any help at all with this. The system has a pretty clean installation of XP, with very little on it but my IDE and Vault.

This might be related to the IE uninstallation problem. See http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=82 for more info, and let us know if that helps.
