Warning during checking-in a dsp file from VisualStudio

Post by lionelbzh » Thu Dec 23, 2004 10:38 am

:( I use VisualC++ 6.0 and SourceOffsite 3.5.3.

In VisualStudio, when I Check-in a project file, I get this warning "The project file c:\blah\blah\blah.dsp" may have been modified on disk by the preceding Source Control operation. You will need to close and reload this project in order to incorporate any changes. Do you want to reload it now?".

It's due to the combination of VisualStudio and SourceOffsite because
- if I check-in from SourceOffsite client program I get no warning.
- if I check-in from VisualStudio but using SourceSafe I get no warning.

I have been using VSS and Sourceoffsite for a long time and I have never experienced this "bug" untill a few days ago.

Does anyone have the explaination and the solution ?

Was there anything about this operation or project might have been different from previous project file checkins?

Linda,

I add the following facts :

- It occurs with all the projects (.dsp files) of all the WorkSpaces I use

- It doesn't occur on other computers using the same projects in the same VSS data base

- I have suppressed SourcOffsite client program and installed it again and nothing changed

I hope it will help you to help me !!!

Thanks

I'm not sure why the message is appearing but it might go away if
you go into Tools - Options - Editor tab and select "Automatic reload of
externally modified files."

Thanks for your reply, Linda but I don't want to select the option "Automatic reload of externally modified files.". I must be informed and keep control in case of such events.

I have new information :

- It occurs only if the .dsp file has been modified and if I don't select the option "keep checked out" in the check-in dialog box. After the warning I get messages indicating that it is retrieving the directories included in the project.

So if check-in a modified .dsp file and keep it checked out it's OK, and if I check-in a second time (without any modifaication since the previous check-in) and don't keep the file checked out it's OK too because it has not been modified since the previous check-in.

Very strange isn't it ?
