Is there an error message?

Is there a log.txt file in the SOS Server installation directory?

Does the log file have any useful information?

Sometimes the SOS Server won't start if the server service doesn't have access to the VSS database. If the database is on a different machine, you may need to use a domain account (domain\username) rather than the System account for the Logon As property of the SOS Server Service.

This is configured in Control Panel->Admin Tools->Services->SourceOffSite Server 4->Properties.

Exact same issue here. Service starts then window pops up a box saying the service closed after starting. No log file generated.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Tried starting service on command line to get some output:

C:\Program Files\SourceOffSite Server>net start "SourceOffSite 4 Server"
The SourceOffSite 4 Server service is starting.
The SourceOffSite 4 Server service could not be started.

The service did not report an error.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534.

C:\Program Files\SourceOffSite Server>net helpmsg 3534

The service did not report an error.

Are you all running WinXP SP 2?

Is there any info in the Event Viewer?

See this KB article for a possible solution:
