Moving to SQL Web

Post by pmb88 » Tue Mar 05, 2019 2:41 pm

Hello,

We are thinking of changing our SQL Edition from Standard to Web. Is the SQL Server Web edition, compatible with vault?

The compatibility chart here, http://sourcegear.com/vault/documentati ... chart.html doesn't specify if SQL Web is supported and some have Express explicitly stated.

Hello,

Yes, I can confirm that Vault supports the SQL Server Web edition. However, please note that you must have FULL SQL Server Administrative privileges to successfully install the Vault Server.

Thanks,

Tonya

May I ask why in that chart that between SQL server 2005 to 2014 where it specifies an express edition, whereas 2016 and 2017 versions don't have it?

Can you give a full list of databases that vault creates for version 8 standard, that I would need to migrate to the new SQL server? Not sure if the various versions create different databases/objects.

What would happen if I try to run it on a server that's not compatible, like running Vault version 8 on a SQL server 2017?

Sorry for the confusion with SQL Server 2016 and 2017 in regards to the express version. Yes, Vault does support these versions and I will make sure to get our documentation updated.

Vault Version 8.x has four databases: sgmaster, sgvault, sgvaultindex and sgnotify

If you tried to install a Vault Server in an incompatible environment, you will likely run into unexpected results. There could be several underlying issues with the .Net Framework, etc and we would not be able to assist you.

We might be sticking with the same version, but use a different edition. We currently have SQL Server 2008R2 Standard, and probably going to SQL Server 2008R2 Web. Can you verify that it particularly supports SQL Server 2008R2 Web? I should've started with this as my initially. I apologize that its a repeat, but since this is an older SQL version, I just want to be extra sure that before I make the change.

Yes, if the Vault version you are currently on supports SQL Server 2008R2 then it will support the SQL Server 2008R2 Web edition.

Again, please note that you must have FULL SQL Server Administrative privileges to successfully install the Vault Server.
