I am planning to do the following upgrades:
SQL Server 2014 to 2017
Visual Studio 2015 to 2017
Vault Professional 9.1 to 10.0
What would be the recommended sequence for these upgrades?
Recommended upgrade sequence
Re: Recommended upgrade sequence
We have a knowledge base article available for customers who are moving their Vault database during an upgrade:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=22663&p=77411#p77411
Please note the Visual Studio binding information is available at the bottom of the KB.
You will want to move the Vault database to the new machine by performing a SQL backup/restore:
viewtopic.php?t=228
Followed by the Vault 10 upgrade:

Thanks,
Tonya

Re: Recommended upgrade sequence
Thanks for the information which I'll review.
All upgrades are in place upgrades of an existing server. I guess since the SQL Server will be a new instance the Vault database backup / restore is still recommended rather than hoping the SQL upgrade will deal with it properly?

Re: Recommended upgrade sequence
If the SQL Server 2017 will be installed on a new machine, you will need to backup your Vault database and then restore it to the newer version. Followed by the Vault upgrade.
If you plan on keeping your SQL Server on the same machine and only performing an upgrade, you will not be required to backup your database and restore it, you can simply go through the SQL Server upgrade process. Followed by the Vault upgrade.
Please let me know if there is still some confusion.
Thanks,
Tonya

Re: Recommended upgrade sequence
That pretty much clears it up.
I am just doing a SQL Server in place upgrade on the same machine. Will I need to do anything special when I do the Visual Studio upgrade, which I plan to do after the SQL Server and Vault 10 upgrades?

Re: Recommended upgrade sequence
If you are not moving the Vault Server during the upgrade, you will not need to worry about your bindings in Visual Studio.
