Some dialogs incorrectly sized

Some dialogs incorrectly sized
I'm running Vault 9.1 on a Surface Book laptop, and some of the dialogs are incorrectly sized, where I can't see portions of the form. In another window, everything mostly is sized fine, except for the tiny tool bar buttons. The resolution is 3000x2000 on the device.
Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
Thank you for the report. I believe i have a bug logged on this. I will note this with it.

Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
Hi,
I've seen these same kind of issues with other applications on my Surface Pro 3. It's do with how the application handles high DPI screens. It's great that Sourcegear have logged it as a bug, but there is a work around that I use for Photoshop that might apply...
It involves creating a manifest for the application in question. I'm sure it can be adapted to work with Vault by creating the relevant file.

Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
We are looking into fixing this for Vault 10. In the meantime, I'm not sure this exists option exists on a Surface, but with Win 10 if you check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" on the compatibility tab, does that have any effect?

Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
I didn't see an option like that, but the text scaling is set to 200%, which is the recommended setting. I tried dropping it to 100%, but all the text on the Surface Book becomes pretty much unreadable due to the high resolution of the screen (3000x2000).jclausius wrote:We are looking into fixing this for Vault 10. Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
Just installed Vault 10, and this is still an issue on the Surface Book.jclausius wrote:We are looking into fixing this for Vault 10. Is it really that uncommon to use a Surface Book for development?
Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
I tested, but the highest I could do was 2048 x 1536. I then tried 200% and 250% on the text and found 200% to be a bit nicer.
Can you attempt the same resolution I had and see if you still have a problem? That will tell if it's a machine issue or a resolution issue.

Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
Changing the resolution doesn't fix it; the buttons are still way too small. And you lose a lot of screen real estate. You get black bars ~0.5" in space on the left and right which Windows no longer uses.Beth wrote:I tested, but the highest I could do was 2048 x 1536. I really don't understand not fixing this. Its been known about for a year, and its been over a year since Vault 10 and the previous release. There are rumors the Surface Book 2 will have a 3,840 x 2,160 resolution.
Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
For this initial Vault 10 release, we addressed all the text and controls found in most dialogs and the main window, trying to make them resizable and readable. However, anything to do with toolbars have not yet been addressed (still using 16x16 images). Testing has been done on differing resolutions, going up to ~5000x~3000 displays on Windows 10 desktops.
Could you please provide some more information on what you're seeing? The buttons mentioned, do you mean buttons on dialogs? In regards to real estate, most everything should be resizable to adjust to your resolution. Could you elaborate on that and the 'black bars'?

Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
See the second post in this thread; the circled buttons are tiny. The Vault GUI client itself is fine (and has been fine), its the integration in VS (so if you right click the solution and pick Check In.jclausius wrote:For this initial Vault 10 release, we addressed all the text and controls found in most dialogs and the main window, trying to make them resizable and readable. The issue is in the VS2015 Enhanced client and the new VS2017 VSIX plug-in.
Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
OK. You're talking about the Toolbar on the Check-In / Commit dialog.
However, you can resize the dialog correct? All the actual buttons (not toolbar items) on the bottom show up (as they do in your screen shot)? Do the short-cut keys (Ctrk-K, Ctrl-F, Ctrl-E, etc.) work on that dialog?
What about the real-estate and the 'black bars' you had mentioned?

Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
We have an experimental client you could try out if you'd like. It addresses the toolbar in the main GUI client, the toolbar in the Pending Change Set, and the toolbar in the Visual Studio client's check in dialog. Again, tested with Windows 10 (on a desktop) with ~5000x~3000 resolution with varying (150% to 300%) font scaling.
To get that client, email support at sourcegear.com with a link to this thread.

Sorry, I thought I had posted a reply to this.jclausius wrote:OK. You're talking about the Toolbar on the Check-In / Commit dialog.

Yes, I can resize the dialog, and the OK Cancel buttons are correctly sized. The shortcut keys work (although I didn't know until now there were shortcut keys).
The black bars are the same as if you were to watch a DVD (4:3 aspect ratio) on your 16:9 HDTV and keep the DVD's aspect ratio. There are two black bars which run from top to bottom on both sides were there just is no picture displayed. That's what happens on the Surface Book. Windows doesn't stretch the image horizontally (and it probably shouldn't as it would be even more distorted). So while the toolbar buttons are more easily visible / clickable pretty much everything else is comically large and distorted.
Re: Some dialogs incorrectly sized
I tried the version linked above, and the icons are still small / hard to visually differentiate, although it seems improved.
