Upgrading DB for Vault Std 5.1.1

Post by scaiferw » Mon Oct 05, 2015 11:46 am

Hi;

I've been informed by our server people that I need to upgrade my SQL2005 back end to SQL2008R2.

I know my Vault is out of date, and we do have the maintenance plan to upgrade, but I'd prefer to bite off one thing at a time.

Can we upgrade Vault 5.1.1 to Win2008R2/SQL2008R2 or must we upgrade Vault first?

Or must it all be done at the same time?

Thanks,

Rob

Vault 5 supports SQL 2008 R2, so you can just upgrade the SQL Server. Make sure you have current database backups before starting.

Our Compatibility Chart shows each version that is supported with each other software.

Thanks Beth.

We'll be moving to an existing 2008 cluster rather than upgrading.

Is it as simple as backing up the databases, restoring on the 2008 cluster and pointing IIS to the new DB server?

Also, is there a reference for the specifics of this process?

Thanks,

Rob

We don't test on clusters, but we do have some customers who run it that way. You will treat the cluster as if it was a normal single instance SQL Server. The software that manages the cluster is supposed to take care of the rest.

Is it as simple as a backup from SQL2005 and restore on the new SQL2008 instance followed by pointing Vault Server to the new DB?

If you have any step-by-step guide for this I'd appreciate it. I'm the business owner of Vault but I'm not primarily a server guy.

Thanks,

Rob

You have two ways you can do the move: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=924.

1) Backup database. Restore to the new SQL Server. Uninstall and reinstall Vault (choose option to keep the database), but during the reinstall, point to the new SQL Server

2) Backup database. Restore to the new SQL Server. Change the web.config. Add the appropriate users to the new SQL Server and give them db_owner rights (details in the KB article I linked to above).
