Vault Upgrade
Hi:
We are on Vault Standard 7.1.0 (2028).
I am not sure where to get the latest download but I do know my company (FHLB Cincinnati) has purchased support so we get free upgrades.
Also, how difficult is the upgrade and what's all involved?
Thanks
BTD

Re: Vault Upgrade
Your steps will be:
-- Contact Sales to get your license keys for Vault 8. They can be emailed at sgstore at sourcegear.com.
-- Backup your Vault databases (sgvault, sgmaster, sgvaultindex, sgnotify).
-- Check the Compatibility Chart
-- Run the Vault 8.0.1 server installer. It will look just like your original install.
-- Run the Vault 8.0.1 client on the client machines.

Beth:
Thanks for your help. I got the keys and I am all set to upgrade.
I do have a few questions.
In our 7.1.0 version of Vault, I see 4 databases. Is this the same or are you adding more databases?
Is the installation pretty straight forward. Recall my last upgrade was from 5.1 to 7.1.
We have CruiseControl. What's all involved in upgrading CCNet?
Thanks

Re: Vault Upgrade
I see where there is a ReadMe.txt file for CCNet upgrade.
Is CCNET upgrade compatible with Vault 7.1?
As we don't have a separate installation of CCNet for UAT and I was wondering if I could upgrade CCNET plug in and have it run with Vault 8.0.1.

Re: Vault Upgrade
You can only use the plugin specific to the version of Vault you are using. If you have upgraded to Vault 8, then you will need to download the new plugin and install it. Instructions are contained inside the zip file you will download.

Re: Vault Upgrade
OK thank Beth.
Final question.
SInce we already have Vault 7.1 installed, when I upgrade to 8.0.1 does Vault KEEP all the current database user accounts and their rights or does it wipe all users out?
Also I see 4 databases (sgvault, sgmaster, sgnotify, sgvaultindex). Are there any special permissions or does the upgrade take care of it?
Thanks

Re: Vault Upgrade
I see where you made lots of fixes for us Windows users. But is there anything major?
Re: Vault Upgrade
Sorry. A few more questions.
I'm confused about upgrading CCNet. I see from the CCNet.zip file that there are 7 dlls.
Currently we are on CCNet version 1.6.7981.1.
And in my ..\CruiseControl.NET 1.6\server folder I don't see any of the CCNet.zip files in my CruiseControl.NET server directory. So I'm not sure what to do.
For NantTasks.zip file I do see several dlls in my nant library but they are from older versions (i.e. the VCDiff.dll that we use is version 3.1.7.3919. And your verison is 8.0.1.299.
So I'm not sure what to do with CCNet and NantTasks files.
please advise as right now, I am not going to do anything with these unless you tell me otherwise.
Note: In talking to the developers, they are all using command line tasks for Vault.

Re: Vault Upgrade
You want to keep all the databases you listed, but you don't need to do anything with permissions. Vault will take care of that. Also, all users and their security settings are kept.
"Major" is relative. The biggest thing is the new Cross Platform Client that provides a GUI client for Mac and Linux. Other things I was excited about are the change to how statistics settings are set in the SQL Server, the new file properties window, and being able to set custom external applications based on the file extension. Other users were looking for other changes we made though.
