Auto Checkout Issue

Auto Checkout Issue
I am running Vault 7.1 with Visual Studio 2008.
I leave my machine on at night but before I leave I check in all files.
Next day, I continue working on a file but realize that Vault has not automatically checked it out.
In this case, I find out that I have to click the Refresh Source Control Status link BEFORE checking out a file.
Question: Is there a way to automate this? As there are several times I forget that my files are unprotected and not checked out.
Thanks

Re: Auto Checkout Issue
Which integration client are you using? Enhanced or Classic?

I'm not sure I know the difference or how to change it?
How can I check and which one should I use?
Thanks

Re: Auto Checkout Issue
Look in Visual Studio under Tools->options->Source Control->Source Control Plugin.
Let me know which plug is configured there. Don't change it, though, it can cause a problem with the integration unless you take certain steps.
Each plugin has different options on how they treat files.

In Visual Studio 2008 y dropdown says
SourceGear Vault Standard Visual Studio Enhanced.

Re: Auto Checkout Issue
It's possible that Vault Client is losing contact with the server overnight and not causing a checkout when the file changes.
You try setting a short automatic refresh time and see if that helps with a quicker refresh.
This setting is in the Visual Studio under Tools->Options->Source Control->VaultProfessional Options->Advanced Options->General->Automatically refresh every X minutes.

Linda:
Thanks.
Here is my experience.
I did as you suggested but found that the Automatic refresh setting was already set (checked) for 10 minutes.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Auto Checkout Issue
Vault SHOULD checkout these files in Visual Studio if they've been modified, but if the connection has been interrupted overnight, then that might not work.
I have some suggestions, but they all involve reconnecting to the Vault Server.
1) Close Visual Studio when you'd done for the day. Opening VS will require logging in again.
2) Refresh Source Control status when you start work for the day.
3) Check out files before you start working on them.
4) Use CVS mode, which doesn't require files to be checked out.

Re: Auto Checkout Issue
When we leave work for the day, we typically keep VS.NET and the solution open (files are checked in though) because it takes so long to load.
Do you have any other suggestions.

Re: Auto Checkout Issue
Once you've refreshed Source Control, are files checked out automatically again until Visual Studio is left open overnight?
Or does automatic checkout never work properly?
