Show VSS History error

Post by BenW » Tue Oct 22, 2013 5:19 pm

Hi,

I'm getting an error when trying to Show the VSS history on any unit.

"Server was unable to process request. ---> Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password"

I think it started occurring around the time I changed my windows logon password. It has worked previously.

Thanks.

P.S. Here's my version information and I've attached the sgvault.log file as a zip below.

There are definitely authentication errors in the the Vault Server log:

----10/23/2013 9:45:47 AM bwesl--paisa.pa.com.au(10.1.1.253)--SSL Disabled Uncaught Exception: A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (ctl00$ctl00$SectionMaster$ContentPlaceHolderOnAdminMaster$TextBoxFromAddress="...ar Vault" <SourceGearVault@sdg...").
----10/23/2013 9:45:47 AM bwesl--paisa.pa.com.au(10.1.1.253)--SSL Disabled at System.Web.HttpRequest.ValidateString(String value, String collectionKey, RequestValidationSource requestCollection)
at System.Web.HttpRequest.ValidateNameValueCollection(NameValueCollection nvc, RequestValidationSource requestCollection)
at System.Web.HttpRequest.get_Form()

Did you use the VSS Admin account or your VSS user account when you did the VSS Handoff?

Hi Linda,

I did the VSS Handoff back in April so I can't quite remember.

But your question prompted me to verify the Handoff settings in Admin --> Server Settings --> Handoff Sources --> Operations --> Edit Connection Information.

I had used my Windows User account for the Impersonated Windows User account details and the password stored in Vault was an outdated one.

Updating the password fixed my problem and am in the process setting up a different account to use for this.

I had missed the "Operations" button previously and thought I couldn't change any of the details about the Handoff Sources and assumed it was using my current Windows Account password because no "password" column is displayed in the Handoff Sources grid.

I'll remember for next time though :-) Thanks for pointing me in the right Direction.

Thanks for the update. That's good news. : )

Yes, I was testing this to see what happens when the password changes. I think it depends whether VSS is using Windows authentication or if you have a separate VSS password.

Glad you got things working.
