Make filename selectable/copyable (feature request)

Currently names (paths) of compared files are read-only text labels.
It would be very helpful if content of these fields can be copied somehow.

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll pass this info on to our developers.

Yes, as a multi-platform user (Mac, Win, Linux), I am experiencing a bit of available features confusion. There is a DiffMerge.net site that provides a Windows-based tool that looks very similar to the SourceGear offering, but it has exactly the type of file/directory merge capability that I really need. This capability is much like the Linux "meld" tool. Can you please enlighten me regarding the overlap or not between the SourceGear DiffMerge and that offered by DiffMerge.net?

We are not affiliated with DiffMerge.net and I personally
have never used it, so I can't really talk about what their
product does or doesn't do (other than just repeating their
feature sheet).

It would help if you could elaborate on what features you
are looking for in a tool. I'll briefly describe some of
SourceGear DiffMerge's features and give some links
for additional information.

[*] SourceGear DiffMerge is a cross-platform app that runs
on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X with an identical
feature set.

[*] We support 2-way Folder comparisons showing a side-by-side
listing of the contents of each folder. There are lots of options for
ignoring/excluding common trash files (such as compiler output and
dot-files). You can double-click on a pair and see the differences
in a File Diff Window.

[*] We support 2-way file comparisons (File Diff Windows) which
shows the changes between the 2 versions of the file. You can
easily move between these changes and "apply a change" from the
left side to the right. You can also interactively edit the right file.

[*] We support a 3-way File Merge which allows you to see
2 different versions and a common ancestor and allows you to
merge changes to the middle. Auto-merge is supported.

[*] We support Rulesets which allow you to customize by file type
how files are compared, such as ignoring case for Visual Basic files
or ignoring lines containing Copyright dates.

[*] It is relatively easy to make SourceGear DiffMerge the diff/merge
tool of many popular Version Control systems.

There are many more features, but that is a good start.

As for which is best for you, download them both and give
them a try.

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

[For some reason your last response got flagged and didn't get properly posted. I've quoted it here.]

Thank you for your response and associated information. The ability to try the DiffMerge.net tool is not possible on the Mac OS platform which is where my work needs to be done.

The specific feature/capability that I observe is not present in the SourceGear offering and am requesting is the ability to move files and/or folders to the left or right using the tool via clicking buttons or the like. This is the capability that both the DiffMerge.net tool and the meld tool have.

The SourceGear DiffMerge tool only provides a directory and file structure inspection capability and no way to take action to "correct" or "update" the file/directory structure.

Yes, the 4.0 release is strictly a viewer of the structure of the file/directory structure.

The 4.1 release (due out in a few weeks) addresses that and will have the ability
to copy/overwrite files and folders from one side to the other.

SUPER. Thanks for finding my lost post - I think I didn't reply correctly. I really look forward to the soon-to-be-announced version 4.1 and the file/directory merge/manipulation feature.
