Work Item queries

Post by dcornelius » Mon Aug 27, 2012 4:21 pm

  • If I select Browse Work Items from the View menu, add some queries then close that window and go back to the file list, how do I refresh the list of queries in the bottom half of the screen when View Vault Pro Work Items is selected?
  • Can we create custom "summary" queries? I'm really interested in seeing accumulated hours by keyword or category.
Trying out Vault Pro 6.

Thanks!

You should just be able to click the refresh button and it will update the list.

It currently not possible to make custom summary queries. We have a feature request for some more custom reporting that I can add your "vote" to if you'd like.

That's what I expected, but the list didn't change. Reconnecting to the repository did, of course.

Yes, that'd be great!

I'd also like to be able to have more (or rather, a custom set of) fields in the list returned by a query. I find myself drilling into the details a lot just to see the information I need. And more filter options would be highly desirable as well.

I've added your vote to the feature requests. Thanks for your feedback.

After you reopened the Vault client, did your work item list refresh with the refresh button, or do you continue to have to reopen your Vault client to refresh work items?

I tried several times and the refresh button never worked for me.

So that I can attempt to reproduce the issue, could you open a Vault GUI client, login, then go to Help - Technical Support and copy the server and client information into a post?

Do any other users have this problem?

This is a trial version of Vault 6 Pro on a virtual machine running XP Pro connected to SG's public servers. There's only one user--me.

Here's the exact sequence of steps to take to reproduce it:
  • Click the button, "View Vault Pro Work items" in the bottom tab of Vault Pro Client, and open a folder of queries, notice the list
  • Select "View | Browse Work Items" from the main menu, open same folder of queries (same at this point)
  • Add a new query, select parameters, run, save, appears in the list of queries
  • Close the "Browse Work Items" window, returning to the repository of files with the work item queries still showing on the bottom half of the screen
  • Hit Refresh for the same folder of queries--it does not change to show the new query
  • Reconnect to the current repository, open up the folder of queries in the bottom half of the screen and see the new one is there
Deleting a query does the same thing
  • Select "View | Browse Work Items" from the main menu, open the same folder of queries and see the same list again
  • Delete the newly added query, close the window
  • Refresh in the bottom tab of work item queries and the query is still there
  • Try executing the query that was deleted, but is still in the list, and you get an error message.

I was able to reproduce this. Looks like we need to add the lower pane to our refresh. I've logged bug 16541 and it will be considered for a future release. Thanks for the report!
