I'm trying to replace our old VSS server with a new system.
Our new computer has:
Win2k Server SP4
VSS 6.0d
SOS Server 3.5.3
When I try to start the SOS server service, I get the following message:
"Windows could not start the SourceOffSite Server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -2147221164"
The message in the System Event Log is:
"The SourceOffSite Server service terminated with service-specific error 2147746132."
Based on Knowledge Base Article "The SourceOffSite Server returned service specific error 214..." and microsoft.com, I got the latest java software at http://www.java.com. That didn't help.
What should I try next to get the service up and running?
Tom

You may need to use a different machine or upgrade to SOS 4.0.x.
Windows 2000 SP 4 no longer supports the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, and has the same issues as Windows 2003 in this KB article:

If you've already downloaded and installed a copy of the JVM, but it doesn't work, then SOS Server isn't supported on that machine.
SOS 4.0.x does not need the JVM.
