Hello. We recently performed a VSS Import using your VSS Import tool from VSS 8.0 (2005) to Vault Standard 5.0.2.19281. We followed all the suggested preparatory steps suggested here in your official threads on the subject.
After the import was complete, we've noticed that most, if not all, of the labels that were imported show up in their respective project's history with the correct date, but the history view refuses to sort them properly by said date. Everything other than labels will be sorted correctly (i.e. by Date in Descending order) but the labels, despite showing proper/expected dates, seem to be slotted in random order.
Please see the attached screenshot (and please excuse the quick/sloppy censoring of project and usernames) where you can clearly see that view is being sorted by date descending yet all the labels ("Action Labeled ...") are not being properly sorted.
Labels not sorting by date correctly post-VSS-import.

Re: Labels not sorting by date correctly post-VSS-import.
What you are seeing is due to one of the differences in how Vault and VSS deal with data. VSS tracks file versions, but not folder versions, therefore, the VSS Import must try to create the folder versions.
We import each file individually and its full history. Then at the end, we import the labels. Both labels and folders may look out of order.
As you use Vault the new history will be in the proper order.

Re: Labels not sorting by date correctly post-VSS-import.
So, are you saying that sorting by date doesn't actually sort by date? To me it sounds like you are saying that during the import process, it needs to import labels last, and that the date it assigns the import isn't what is used for sorting by date, but that the order in which it was added is, in fact, what is used. Forgive me, but wouldn't it be a simple matter to simply sort by displayed date?Beth wrote:What you are seeing is due to one of the differences in how Vault and VSS deal with data. If the current sorting method is intrinsic enough to make this change too difficult to justify, perhaps you could add in the ability to click columns to force a toggled sort based on displayed data in the history window? This would allow us to, at the very least, rectify the improper sorting once the history table has been populated. Being able to see labels in folder history in their proper order is a high priority for us.
Thank you.

It's not the sorting by date that's the issue.
Try performing a Show Labels and see if that shows the labels in a format that helps you.
