migrate Vault to new server

Post by kkchan » Thu May 24, 2012 9:39 am

Hi
I tried to migrate vault to new server. I backup and restore sgmaster and sgvault to new server, reinstall the VaultServer, with Keep existing database. I copy the uid and password from old server web.config to new one. But I hit error as log file attached. I used to tried to create sgVaultUser login manually and etc... but still no luck. Any ideas?

You shouldn't copy the username and password from the old server. Vault needs to recreate it on the new server. Here's what you should do at this point.

1) In your SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) remove sgvaultuser from both the sgvault and sgmaster database and from the SQL logins.

2) Uninstall Vault, but choose the option to keep the database.

3) Install Vault server. When the SQL connection comes up, you will login with SQL authentication and use a SQL admin account such as sa. Vault doesn't use this during normal operation, but will use those credentials to create its own user and give it the rights it needs.

4) Test connecting with the web client as soon as the install is complete (http://<your Vault server>/vaultservice/vaultweb) and let me know your results.

Hi
I have restored sgmaster and sgvault again. Delete sgvaultuser from both db and security | login. Run the vaultserver installer again, login to SQL using sa account, select keep database, http://<server>/VaultService/VaultWeb/ web page shown. Key in admin uid and pwd, error occured as attachment. Checked web.config pwd in conn string is generated to new one. But still unable to login

Are you installing on a 64-bit or 32-bit server?

What is the OS you are installing on?

Which version of Vault are you installing?

Vault 4.1.4 is not fully supported on Windows 7. Check out our compatibility chart for more information: http://www.sourcegear.com/vaultpro/docu ... chart.html.

I "might" be able to make a few suggestions to get you running, but I can't make any guarantees on it.

If you are able to upgrade to Vault 5.1.2, that would be a better route to go.

If you want to discuss other options or what it would take to get you upgraded, could you send an email to support at sourcegear.com (attn: Beth) with a link to this forum thread?
