loosing sgvault

Post by Xavier » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:35 am

hello

it's the second time i've lost sgvault from SQLmanagement studio.
It prevented to login to vault of course. Data file was OK, but I could not display tables and eveything else.
Any idea how this can happen (the db is 3,5GO on sqlexpress) ?
After detach / attach it worked again.

I'm trying to go from 2005 to 2008r2sp1

Best regards

I could use more information about losing sgvault in SQL Express 2005. Is it not appearing in the list of databases?

Do you get any error messages from SQL Server Express?

Are there any errors in your SQL Server logs or in the Vault Server log that might give some clues on what the problem is?

You said your sgvault database is 3.5 GB. Do you have other databases in SQL Server Express? Could there be times you are bumping up against the 4 GB size limit of SQL Server Express 2005?

If so, then moving to SQL Server Express 2008 R2 would help, as it has a 10 GB size limit.

No error from SQL but I do not know where to get them
I've uprgaded to 2008R2 and it's fine.

It might be related to a new backup system that doesn't use SQL VSS Writer to backup the database; it's been fixed with scripts.

I'll let you know

thank you Linda

I think this can be closed; no more error since the services are stopped before backup.
