*BUG* Get by Label on sub folder hangs when asking Overwrite

Post by luther_miller » Tue Sep 07, 2004 4:44 pm

Tried this with 2.0.3 and 2.0.6 client:

Right-click a sub folder
Choose Show Labels
Select a label
Choose Get...

If your Options are set up to prompt b efore overwriting files, you will get a popup asking wheter you want to merge, overwrite, etc..

After this pops up, the Vault client will hang.
If you change your options to always overfwrite so you don't get the popup, it works ok.

Luther,

I've been trying to reproduce this in some simple ways, but have not been successful. Can you provide more detail about the kind of label you are getting, and the files/folder structure of the tree you are getting the file to.

Also are you getting to a working folder or a non-working folder?

It's a large project. The label was applied to a folder one folder below the root.

I selected another folder even deeper than the folder where the label was applied. Below that sub-folder is an entire tree including several solutions etc. Some of the folders in the tree have different working folders.

My options are set to prompt to ask me whether files should be overwritten etc. If I turn the option off (e.g. always overwrite without prmpting) then there is no problem.

When I go through the steps I listed in the first post, the dialog appears asking me if I want to overwrite etc. When that dialog appears, I may or may not have time to click any options on the dialog before Vault hangs. The first time it happened, I was able to check the box for Always... but when I hit OK, it did not go away and everything hung. The next try I got distracted before I interacted with the dialog box, and I couldn't intereact with it at all - the Vault client had hung already (some time after opening the dialog, but within several seconds, I believe).

Where was the label applied, and are there other labels applied below that in the tree?

Also, are you just getting the working folder that is supplied in the Get dialog, or did you change that so it the files would go to a different local folder?

Also, are the files that are being overwritten locally edited (e.g., what is their status in the Vault GUI client)?

-The label was applied to a folder below the root, but I had opened the Show Labels dialog for a folder another level below that one.

Also, are you just getting the working folder that is supplied in the Get dialog, or did you change that so it the files would go to a different local folder?
-I did not change the working folder

Also, are the files that are being overwritten locally edited (e.g., what is their status in the Vault GUI client)?
-I don't think they were edited - they should have been a failrly recent version from a standard Get Latest...

Is it possible that the dialog is just appearing to hang, but is really in the middle of downloading a bunch of files? Position the dialog so that the bottom of the main Vault window is in view, so you can see whether files are currently being downloaded.

i don't think so

I thought of this, too.
First off, there were no status messages at the bottom of the other windows showing that anything was happening.
Secondly, in Task Manager, the Vault talk used 0% CPU and the number of IO reads/writes did not change.
None of this is consistent with when the Vault client is successfully retrieving files.

If you want, we could use remote administration so that you can actually see this happen.
