SOS 5.0.3 does not seem to manage the SourceSafe pins

SOS 5.0.3 does not seem to manage the SourceSafe pins
Hi,
We have a SourceSafe database with a lot of pinned files. With SourceOffsite 5.0.3, the fact that the files are pinned is not taken in account : we can not see a "pin icon" for these files and when we do a "get latest version" on these files, the pin it totally ignored and the latest version of the file is dowloaded (a more recent version than the pinned one).
Of course, I've checked the setting "Display status of pinned files" of the SOS Client options.
Kind regards
rwil

Is this a new problem? Was it working properly before?
Which version of the VSS Automation Component is the SOS Server using?
To determine the SourceSafe Automation Component (ssapi.dll) version used by SOS Server, look at the System Info tab in the SOS Server Manager.
The SOS Server Manager is in the SOS Server directory on the SOS Server machine, usually, C:\Program Files\SourceGear\SourceOffSite 5 Server.

Also -- in the SOS Client Options->View dialog, is "Display Status of Pinned Files" checked?

Yes, it's a new problem. We've just upgrade from SOS 4.2 (in which the pins were managed in the right way) to SOS 5.0.3 (in which the pins are not ok).lbauer wrote:Is this a new problem? Was it working properly before?

The source safe automation component (ssapi.dll) used by the SOS server is 6.0.96.4.
And yes, the option "Display status of pinned files" is checked, of course.
Re: SOS 5.0.3 does not seem to manage the SourceSafe pins
If you try to pin from the SOS client, does the pin appear?
The automation component version has a great deal of impact on the behavior of the SOS Server.
According to our system requirements, SourceOffSite 5 Server requires either Visual SourceSafe 6.0d or Visual SourceSafe 2005 (preferrably VSS 2005 Update) be installed on the SOS Server machine.

I'd suggest upgrading the VSS client on the SOS Server machine.

Re: SOS 5.0.3 does not seem to manage the SourceSafe pins
We have upgraded the VSS version on the SOS 5 Server. Now ssapi.dll has the version number 6.0.31222.0.
But the problem with the pins remains. The pins were not created by using SourceOffsite, they are created by our build machine which uses SourceSafe directly.
We do not want to install Visual Studio 2005 now, because of the risk of incompatibility of the SourceSafe database between the different versions of VSS.
Any other idea ?
Kind regards

SOS 5.0 was actually tested with VSSd version 6.0.98.48. Is it possible for you to get that version?

Re: SOS 5.0.3 does not seem to manage the SourceSafe pins
We got a copy of the user's VSS database and tested with VSSd, 6.0.98.48 and VSS 2005 Update. SOS was optimized to use with the VSS 2005 Update Automation Component.
Pins were displayed properly when using the VSS 2005 Update Automation Component.
We recommend installing VSS 2005 and update it from here:

You don't have to change the VSS version all your users are using -- you just need to install the VSS 2005 Update Explorer Client on the SOS Server machine so that SOS will use that Automation Component.
